COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LAMPS, METAL HALIDE (1,000 WATTS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of
this commercial item description.
This description covers metal lamps of 1,000 watts for general and street lighting.
Salient characteristics:
The lamp shall operate only on ANSI specified M47 metal halide ballasts.
Although the outer bulb shall be made of heat-resistant glass, external protection of the lamp is still required to eliminate the chance of bulb breakage due to direct contact with water during lamp operation.
The lamp shall be in accordance with ANSI C78.380 and C78.387.
The lamp shall have the characteristics specified in Table I.

** Initial Lumen ratings are based upon 100-hour photometry readings at rated lamp watts.
*** Values shown are based on operation under specified test conditions with 10 or more burning hours per start or typical ballasts in use currently.
**** VBU – Means burn vertical base up to + 15O of vertical base up.
VBD – Means burn vertical base down to + 15O of vertical base down.
U – Means Universal burning positions, bur in any position.
The issue of ANSI C78.380and C78.387 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
