COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LAMPS, METAL HALIDE (250 WATTS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers metal halide lamps of 250 watts for general and street lighting.
Salient characteristics:
The lamp shall operate only on ANSI specified M58 metal halide ballasts.
The lamp shall be used in enclosed fixtures only.
The lamp shall be in accordance with ANSI C78.380 and C78.387.
Although the outer bulb is made of heat resistant glass, external protection of the lamp is still required to eliminate the chance of bulb breakage due to direct contact with water during operation.
The lamp shall have the characteristics as specified in Table I.

** Initial lumens are based upon 100 hour photometry readings at rated lamp watts.
*** Values shown are based on operation under specified test conditions with 10 or more burning hours per start.

VBD Burn Vertical Base down up to 15o of vertical base down.
U Universal Burning; any burning position.
The issue of ANSI C78.380and C78.387 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
