COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LAMPS, MERCURY VAPOR (SAFETY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers safety mercury vapor lamps for general and street lighting.
Salient characteristics:
The base shall be made of brass.
The bulb shall be made of heat resistant glass.
The burning position shall be any.
Safety mercury vapor lamps shall be designed to prevent exposure to potential ultraviolet energy. If the outer glass is broken away, a special construction feature disconnects the electrical supply to the arc tube.
The lamp color shall be deluxe white.
The lamp shall be in accordance with ANSI C78.40, C78.380, C78.1325, and C78.1330.
The lamps shall have the characteristics specified in Table I.

*** Values shown are based on operation under specified test conditions with 16 or more burning hours per start. On lamps with rated life of 24,000- hours, mean lumens are based on 16,000 hours of operation and are measured at 8,000 hours.
The issues of ANSI C78.40, C78.380, C78.386, C78.1325, and C78.1330 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
