COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LAMP SODIUM (HIGH PRESSURE, REPLACEMENT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers high pressure sodium lamps for general and street lighting for replacement of mercury lamps.
Salient characteristics:
The lamp shall have a clear bulb.
Although the outer bulb shall be made of heat resistant glass, external protection of the lamp is still required to eliminate the chance of bulb breakage due to direct contact with water during lamp operation.
For use with approved mercury ballasts only of the 240 or 277 volt reactor-type ballasts or the lag type autotransformer ballasts type.
Burning position any.
The 150 watt lamp, ANSI Code S63MG-150 replaces a 175 watt mercury lamp, ANSI Code H39KC-175.
The lamps shall be for general and street lighting.
The lamp shall have the characteristics specified in Table I.

* Initial lumen ratings are based on 100-hour photometry readings at rated lamp watts.
**Mean lumens are based on operations at 50 percent of rated life, under specified test conditions with 10 or more burning hours per start.
The issue of ANSI C78.380 and C78.388 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
