COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LAMPS METAL HALIDE (1,500 WATTS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers metal halide lamps of 1,500 watts for general and street lighting.
Salient characteristics:
The lamp shall operate only on ANSI specified M48 metal halide ballasts.
The lamp shall be used in enclosed fixtures only.
Although the outer bulb shall be made of heat-resistant glass, external protection of the lamp is still required to eliminate the chance of bulb breakage due to direct contact with water during lamp operation.
The lamp shall be in accordance with ANSI C78.380 and C78.387.
The lamp shall have the characteristics specified in Table I.

* The average rated life is for 5 or more burning hours per start.
** Initial lumen ratings are upon 100-hour photometry readings at rated lamp watts.
*** Values shown are based on operation under specified test conditions with 5 or more burning hours per start.
**** HBU – Burn base up to base 15O below horizontal.
HBD – Burn base down to base 15O above horizontal.
The issues of ANSI C78.380 and C78.387 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
